Please consider booking me for one of your own living room, backyard or barn concerts. Hosting these is easy (perhaps less easy in COVID times, but still do-able. I am fully vaccinated). You just provide a living room, back yard, or barn, and I come play in it. Become a part of this exciting movement to make music more personal, intimate, and fun. Just fill out this easy form, and I'll get back with you.  -- Jason

BIO

Jason Harrod is an award-winning singer-songwriter known for generous melodies and poetic, image-rich lyrics. His songs are cinematic travelogues of belonging and alienation, filled with quirky narrative and emotional detail. Jason has been writing, recording, and performing for over 20 years -- firstly as one half of the duo Harrod and Funck, then later on his own.

In 2000, Jason was a finalist in MerleFest's Chris Austin Songwriting competition. The following year, he won first place in the North Carolina Songwriters Co-Op contest. In 2009. Jason was selected as a spotlight performer at the annual Healdsburg Guitar festival, sponsored by Acoustic Guitar Magazine, and in 2012 he received a Fulbright grant to teach songwriting to students in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Drawing from a wide variety of influences, Jason is hard to pin down stylistically. One critic from the Folk and Music Exchange put it this way, “Jason Harrod embodies a blend of blues and folk wrought with an extremely strong country spine. He possesses a strong voice and confident almost 50s-ish presence and sound, writing catchy melodies with a great band."

Jason recently returned to his native Durham, NC after many years in New York. He tours frequently throughout the US.

News & Updates

10/2023: My new song, “Dog Days,” was released today on most digital platforms. Woohoo!

11/3/21: I’m playing my first in-person coffeehouse in quite a while, at Duke Coffeehouse in Durham, Friday.

6/11/21: I’m fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and am looking forward to playing outside or in other spaces which can accommodate proper distancing.

7/9/19: Greetings from Amsterdam. I’ve been touring Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands for the past 3 weeks. This is my second time here and I’m really loving it. I have a few shows left here, which are under the “tour” section of course. Lekker!

4/30/19: News: I have some shows coming up. Please check the “tour” section for details. I am recording a new record with John Plymale, Robert Sledge, and Rob Ladd, starting in late May. Details coming soon!

8/23/18:  Happy End-of-summer to you.  I've been recording a new record, to be released by Spring 2019 (that's the goal).  Also, a Song and lyric book, also to be released by Spring. In conjunction with that, I launched a Patreon page.  Patreon is a platform by which people can support the artists they care about via a monthly pledge of $1 or more.  If you'd like to consider supporting me, please check it out.

I'm also booking gigs.  If you'd like to host me to play at your venue, let me know, via email or via the form on the site here.

12/1/17:  Happy advent, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!  My collections of advent and Christmas music are available for streaming and download here:  I'm playing shows down in SC this month.  Details under "tour."

1/18/17:

After close to 5 years working in ministry as music director for a wonderful church in Manhattan, I’m transitioning back to full-time performing and writing of my own music. I loved having a regular job as a worship leader. I gained new skills and got to play with some of the most amazing musicians in New York (It wasn’t uncommon for me to turn on Fallon and see someone playing in the band with whom I’d just played in church on Sunday). I’m really going to miss it. But for other reasons, I’m glad to be moving on and I’m excited for what lies ahead.

So I’m hanging out my shingle and letting you know that I’m booking concerts for 2017 and beyond. Many of the shows I perform are living room concerts. A house concert is an intimate, fun, and low-maintenance way to experience music. Basically you invite your friends and I come perform. If you think you’d be interested in having me come play in your home, please drop me a line on here or via the “book a house show” form above.

9/2/16:

I'm thrilled to announce my first ever European tour! I'm headed to the England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and Hungary.  Check the "TOUR" section for the latest updates.

11/30/15:

I've made my whole discography available for 50% off.  That includes 4 solo albums, 2 Advent/Christmas EPs, and a few stray singles, available for $28.50. You can buy it for yourself or gift it to someone. Additionally, I have "Highliner" and "Highliner Acoustic" CDs and (gorgeous) "Highliner" LP records available, also for 50% off.  You can check it all out here.

8/10/15:

I have a new website!  I said goodbye to my old, cumbersome, flash-based site.  I'm still figuring out Squarespace so this is still very much under construction.  Big West Coast tour coming out.  WA, OR, CA.  stay tuned.
